About
Will Thompson
Will Thompson is currently the Assistant Director of the Proteomics and Metabolomics Shared Resource, and a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology at Duke University School of Medicine. He received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill under Dr. Jim Jorgenson, where he developed methods to measure fluid viscosity and diffusion coefficients at pressures above 2000 bar, three-dimensional profiling of electrospray ionization, and size-purification of packing materials for UHPLC. In 2006, he joined the Disease and Biomarker Proteomics group at GlaxoSmithKline, and in 2007 he moved with Dr. Arthur Moseley to Duke to found the Duke Proteomics Core Facility. Since then, Dr. Thompson has coauthored over 80 manuscripts in proteomics and metabolomics. The lab has grown to 10 members, analyzing approximately ten thousand protein and metabolite samples per year using both high resolution and triple quadrupole LC-MS techniques, and collaborates with over 200 principal investigators inside and outside of Duke. Will resides in Apex, NC with his wife of 15 years and two children. In addition to separations science, he enjoys long walks on the beach, puppies, and Philly Cheesesteaks.
