Talking about Microextraction: New Solutions for Environmental Analysis and Biomonitoring
with Emanuela Gionfriddo
About This Meeting
Abstract:
Sample preparation often poses the ultimate challenge to any analytical method development process, whether for targeted or non-targeted analyses in complex samples. Recently, trends in the development of newer sample preparation techniques have shifted toward greener and faster approaches, guaranteeing minimal consumption of organic solvents, promoting the production of reusable extraction devices and enhancement of analysis throughput through automated systems. Solid Phase Microextraction is an alternative sample preparation technique that complies with all the features above mentioned and provides simultaneous extraction/enrichment of the targeted analytes often avoiding the use of organic solvents.
Using microextraction approaches in the field of environmental analysis and biomonitoring provides unique opportunities such as minimal sample handling, on-site and in-vivo sampling. This seminar will discuss the development of innovative quantitive methods for the analysis of environmental and biological samples that enabled the detection of anthropogenic pollutants and xenobiotics at ultra-trace levels from complex samples.
