About This Course

Overview

Maximizing chromatographic efficiency requires the ability to properly operate an HPLC instrument and quickly identify and solve chromatography problems that arise. This intensive one-day short course, taught by a practicing chromatographer, highlights routine system operation and its role in preventing future problems, and offers tips for finding solutions to real-world chromatography problems. The morning session introduces a general philosophy for troubleshooting, and we will discuss what to look for when reviewing chromatograms. In addition, we will provide an in-depth overview of peak integration in chromatography. This is an underappreciated aspect of data analysis that can result in significant analytical errors if not used properly.

The afternoon session goes into more detail on linking symptoms with causes. This discussion makes extensive use of case studies and examples to help students learn by examining real-world problems and solutions. This workshop provides practical technical information that is not available from any other single source. You can benefit from the diverse content in this course regardless of your experience level.

Finally, we finish with the famous “LC Quiz,” a group problem-solving discussion where we explore numerous real-world problems and work through the steps necessary to solve each issue. Students usually remark that this is their favorite part of the class, thanks to the stories attached to many of the problems.
