DuPont Crop Protection, Discovery Environmental and Biological Fate Group, is seeking a highly-motivated Principal Investigator to work in our Newark, Delaware research facility. This position is part of the business that is to be divested to FMC.  The anticipated transaction close date is November 1, 2017.

 

The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated track record of working on projects relating to the discovery, characterization, and/or optimization of agrochemicals. Working in an interdisciplinary team environment, the successful candidate will have the technical and analytical experience necessary to elucidate agrochemical dissipation processes such as degradation in soils, plants and/or insects, hydrolysis, photolysis, volatilization, and sorption to assess biological efficacy and environmental performance.  This knowledge is then applied to guide compound lead optimization, ultimately leading to product registration in the global marketplace.

Job Description:

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary group of scientists within the Research and Development organization to facilitate the discovery and development of novel and innovative crop protection products.

  • Design, conduct, interpret, and communicate results of timeline-driven studies designed to understand the fate of crop protection products in soil, plants, and insects.

  • Compile data generated internally and externally through contract research organizations to characterize behavior of potential new crop protection products.

  • Work closely with chemists and biologists to develop structure activity relationships and use that knowledge to guide optimization efforts.

  • Effectively communicate technical information to diverse internal and external customers.

Job Qualifications

 

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) in a discipline related to evaluating the behavior of small organic molecules in soils, plants, insects, or the natural environment (Plant or Insect Physiology with demonstrated Analytical or Bioanalytical Chemistry skills and knowledge).

  • Experience with analytical instrumentation including HPLC and LC/MS.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organization skills, and ability to influence project teams and manage stakeholders.

  • Proficient in experimental design and data analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct laboratory/greenhouse/small-scale field studies with the intent to characterize behavior of crop protection products or their breakdown products in various matrices (e.g. soils and plants).

  • Self-starter, excellent communicator with strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to work well in teams.

  • Ability to work in the United States of America.

    Desired Skills:

  • 5-10 years of experience in Agrochemical industry.

  • Thorough understanding of chemical and physical properties of molecules and the relationship of these properties to biological activity and behavior in the environment

  • Experience with the acquisition and interpretation of both quantitative and qualitative mass spectral data (low-level quantitation and metabolite/degradate identification).

  • Understanding of various routes of metabolism and degradation in the environment (e.g. soils and plants).

  • Experience in non-target effects testing, ecotoxicology, and/or environmental risk assessment.
