Environmental and Biological Fate Associate Scientist


DuPont Crop Protection, Discovery Environmental and Biological Fate Group is seeking a highly-motivated associate scientist to work in our Newark, Delaware, research facility. This position is part of the business that is to be divested to FMC.  The anticipated transaction close date is November 1, 2017.


The successful candidate will be working with a high level of independence on projects relating to the discovery, characterization, optimization and development of crop protection chemicals with guidance from a Principal Investigator. Working in an interdisciplinary team environment, the successful candidate will have the technical and analytical experience necessary to support a laboratory program to understand fundamental agrochemical dissipation processes such as degradation in soil and plants, hydrolysis, volatilization, and sorption to assess their efficacy and environmental safety.  This work may involve radioactive tracer methodology along with the need for degradate profiling and identification using appropriate analytical techniques. This knowledge is then applied to compound synthesis strategy, candidate optimization, and eventual product registration.

Job Qualifications


  • B.S. degree in a scientific discipline with a strong emphasis on chemistry or biochemistry, with demonstrated ability

    to perform chemical analyses, extraction and separation, and instrumental analyses.


  • Demonstrated ability to learn and effectively utilize analytical instrumentation including HPLC and LC/MS.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including networking ability with the desire to contribute towards team success.

  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to organize data in an easily retrievable manner. 

  • Ability to use a variety of computer programs for data management, analysis and report writing with proficiency 
    using common software (e.g. MS Excel, MS Word), as well as capabilities to operate HPLC and mass spectrometers.


  • Ability to conduct experiments, interpret data and troubleshoot analytical problems with minimal supervision.


Desired Skills:

  • Experience or understanding of the principals of chemical and physical property determinations.

  • Understanding of abiotic and biotic degradation or metabolism processes in soil, water, plants and animals.

  • Automation of analyses, familiarity with robotics.

  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice regulations.
